Akintomide Akinsola

Akintomide Akinsola (b.1995) is a Nigerian full time visual Artist born and raised in the ancient City of Ondo, Ondo State Nigeria. He's currently based in Lagos State where he creates his captivating artworks.

 

Akinsola Obtained his Bachelor degree in Fine and Applied Art Education from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.

 

Utilizing pen and acrylic on canvas he captivates his audience with portrait and figuration in safe spaces, showcasing a slight hint of abstract expressionism. his works possesses exaggerated flat nose influenced by his experience dealing with appearance bulling while growing up.

 

His work also entails a strong use of highly aesthetic patterns influenced by a long historical fashion trend " tartans" that find its way into the African fashion during the colonial era, which had a lasting influence on African fashion till date.

Drawing Inspiration from personal experiences, conversation, history, fashion and African culture his figures gaze and capture an insight of exploring themes like identity, self cognizance, socio cultural and effect of human companionship in modern day society.
