Mirielle Delice

(1965 -  )

Mireille was born in Leogane, Haiti in 1965. She first learned the art of sewing and beading while working in a wedding dress factory with her cousin Myrlande Constant. When the factory closed in 1990, she had a dream where the Lwa (vodou spirits) visited her and told her that she could use her talent to create independent works of art. She started her own business at age 25, and her first flag (drapo) was to honor the spirit Erzulie, the spirit of love.

Mireille's drapo are held worldwide in private collections, and have been shown in museums, exhibited at fairs and included in books on the topic.

"Mireille is a peaceful, gentle soul, whose presence is filled with warmth and genuine love. When I am with her, she makes me feel like the world will be OK, despite the current chaos. Her calm competence is assuring, and her colorful, vibrant work is a pleasure to behold." G.P.
