This was the first float I ever made and the one that got me interested in making a series of them. I hand painted every fabric myself and built up to five layers in each section. The original float from the 1880’s was designed by a woman named Jennie Wilde, who worked anonymously as the lead Mardi Gras designer in an era when women could not even legally ride in a Mardi Gras parade.
