I found a book on the lost islands of the Chesapeake Bay when I was researching my Holland Island piece and couldn’t put it down. The map in the front was reproduced from a historic map in the 1800’s when barrier island populations in the Chesapeake Bay were at their height. I immediately envisioned a fantasy map version using found objects and pieces cut out from vintage playing cards. Many of the places shown are now gone, but I wanted to show that memories of the people who lived there remain.
