This float design was originally included in the Gardens of the World Mardi Gras parade in 1969. I painted in the background with oil sticks and then built on top of that with stitching, hand painted spunbonded fabrics, and a soft sculpture fabric medium called Expandit that can be heated and painted for a range of effects. I wanted to capture the sense of mystery in the original float design.
