(1950 - )
Born in Port-au-Prince in 1950, Desarmes began painting in 1969. An accomplished painter in the Impressionistic style with a fine palette of color and a note of humor and compassion, he painted those he kept company with – all sorts of people. In the 1970s, he became friends with the well-known Haitian painter, Carlo Jean-Jacques, and they painted together often until Carlo’sdeath in 1990.
"I met Desarmes in his home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti when he was in his 60’s, where we looked at his art, and he spoke about painting and learning from the late Carlo Jean-Jacques. He talked about how he began to paint in the Impressionist style, and about their friendship." G.P.
